Green Square Urgent Care Service

Green Square Urgent Care Service provides urgent medical attention for people with an illness or injury that can be managed without a trip to the emergency department, but cannot wait for a regular appointment with the GP.

*Medicare card holders and asylum seekers in the community can be seen and bulk billed.
We are unable to provide care for those without an Australian Medicare card, including those who have international travel insurance/student health cover – even if you are told to come here by Healthdirect.

Simply walk in during our opening hours. Our nursing team will assess your condition and arrange for you to see a doctor based on medical priority.

What can be treated in urgent care

Urgent care is like a general practice that can only treat urgent issues that can’t wait until the next day. 

Urgent Care When You Need It Most

We're here for you when:​

  • You need treatment within 2-12 hours
  • Your issue can’t wait for a GP appointment
  • It’s not severe enough for the Emergency Department

Not suitable for:​

  • Condition’s that can wait for 24+ hours
  • Severe emergencies
  • Routine check ups, ongoing care, prescriptions
  • If you only need an Xray on the weekend (we have no XR on site, nearest being Maroubra UCC)
  • Any referrals, imaging requests or pathology requests that won’t change management on the same day

NSW Health eligibility criteria

  • Australian Medicare Card (not overseas medicare cards or health insurance)
  • Community based asylum seekers

See your usual GP for:

  • Running out of medication
  • Medical certificates
  • Referral letters
  • Pathology or radiology requests
  • Mild or ongoing back pain
  • Eye issues that are mild without visual changes
  • Fever in adults if otherwise well
  • Flu like symptoms if you are otherwise well
  • Post operative issues without infection or bleeding
  • Urinary problems – but able to urinate
  • Workers compensation certificates
  • Wound infections if mild and otherwise well

Come to urgent care for:

  • Minor cuts
  • Acute (new) significant sprains or suspected fractures
  • Sports injuries
  • Minor infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Minor Burns
  • Acute rashes
  • Insect or animal bites
  • Worsening cold, cough or flu
  • Mild asthma attacks
  • Earaches
  • Fevers or chills

Call 000 or go to Emergency for:

  • Chest pain or chest tightness lasting more than 10 minutes
  • Sudden onset of weakness, numbness or paralysis of the face, arm or leg
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Unconsciousness
  • Uncontrollable bleeding
  • A sudden collapse or unexaplined fall
  • Unexplained fitting (seizures)
  • Injury from a major car accident
  • A fall from a greater than 90cm height (or 5 stairs)
  • Serious assault, including stabbing or shooting
  • Severe burns, particularly young children
  • Infants who are fitting or have an ongoing fever
  • Severe mental health concern

Convenient

With pathology on site, radiology nearby, and the ability to suture wounds and plaster minor fractures, we're able to sort things out quickly so its easier to follow up with your GP.

Be triaged by an Urgent Care nurse and treated by an Urgent Care GP

See your GP for follow up

Your visit will be summarised and a copy of the consult and treatment given to you, and to your regular GP if longer term follow up is needed

Why the Green Square UCS exists

Urgent Care Services have been introduced in New South Wales (NSW) to help reduce pressure on emergency departments.

These services give people the treatment they need quickly for an illness or injury that is not an emergency, without waiting in a busy emergency department.
